Development of 3D Holograms

Development of 3D Holograms

We use holograms as a marketing element, to capture the attention of customers.

We energize your events: We create impressive holographic effects using Augmented Reality technology within your mobile device. What will the communications and video calls of the future be like? Perhaps real holograms are a logical evolution of this concept. The possibilities that holographic events encompass for your business have an indisputable emotional value.

PIXELDREAMS is a Barcelona company specialized in Holography and Augmented Reality for all kinds of events, promotions and company communications. Through the use of Augmented Reality on mobile devices we can generate a very impressive holographic effect, being able to recreate objects, figures and even holograms of people. The user will have the sensation of visualizing a person on a real scale in the very place of the event or in her own house.

Holography is an advanced photography technique, which consists of creating three-dimensional images using a laser beam that microscopically records a photosensitive film. Holography was invented in 1947 by the Hungarian physicist Dennis Gabor, who received the Nobel Prize in Physics for this in 1971. However, holography as such, which really fascinated us when R2D2 projected a hologram of Princess Leia onto Star Wars is still in a very embryonic phase of development.

What is a 3D Hologram and how does it work?

Generally speaking, holograms are three-dimensional images. Which are generated by light beams that reflect objects. However, they differ from three-dimensional or 3D projections, since these can be seen with the naked eye. Currently, there is a large industry of holographic technology. Some of the most common uses are:

For example: Musical shows can be enhanced by creating a unique atmosphere or reviving some artists. In education, to reproduce, for example, organs of the human body or recreate historical figures. It is precisely, at this last point, where the holograms of people and AI are integrated to bring new advances to this technology.

Integration with Artificial Intelligence

The integration of AI marks a new direction for holographic technology. Since, by integrating other elements such as voice cloning, digital human creations are rendered at an accelerated rate. In fact, this technology has the potential to create projections so realistic that they may not be visible to the naked eye. In addition, everything seems to indicate that holographic technology will be more accessible and portable. So, possibly, it will become as common as multimedia content is now.

The observer, before a hologram, has the impression of being in front of a real (physical) element. This makes holograms are used to generate realistic experiences, for example in concerts. In the same way, we cannot ignore the fact that the hologram has become a widely used element at the tourist level. Thus, we can find that it is used to give prominence and presence to deceased characters or events from the past in certain monuments.

Realization of Storytelling / Project Script

We think of the best stories and ideas and develop them to turn them into encompassable and professional projects. We create the content script in collaboration with you. In this phase it is essential to design a good storytelling.

Appropriate Technology

  • Augmented Reality: A hologram with augmented reality is a three-dimensional image that is superimposed on the real world through a technological device. The technology uses a combination of cameras, sensors and projectors to create an image that appears to be in real space. Augmented reality holograms are used in various applications such as education, entertainment and advertising. These holograms allow the user to interact with virtual objects and characters in real time, creating a unique and fascinating experience.
  • Projection: A projection hologram is a technique that uses lasers to create three-dimensional images in real space. The technique relies on the interference of laser beams to create patterns of light that resemble physical objects. Projection holograms are used in various fields such as advertising, entertainment, and scientific research. These holograms create a stunning visual experience that appears to be floating in the air. Technology continues to evolve, and projection holograms are expected to become a common tool in visual communication in the near future.
  • Holographic Fans: Holographic fans are devices that use LED technology to create three-dimensional images in the air. These devices work by rapidly spinning fan blades, which create a persistence of vision illusion in which multiple images appear to float in midair. Holographic fans are used in advertising, live events and art exhibitions, to create stunning visual effects that attract the public's attention. As the technology continues to improve, holographic fans are expected to be used in more applications and become an important tool for visual communication.

Chroma recording or 3D post production

Chroma hologram recording is a technique that allows the creation of three-dimensional images with custom backgrounds. The technique uses a green or blue background, known as "chroma key", to record the image of the moving object. The background is removed in the post-production process to create a hologram effect with the object in midair and a custom background. Chroma hologram recording is used in advertising and entertainment, and has become an important tool for creating powerful and engaging images for the audience.

The 2 types of Pixeldreams Holograms

01. BUNZL - Person Hologram

The client requested to be able to show their products in holography for IFEMA 2023. We made the recordings of the characters on set in chroma background, eliminating the background in post-production. We add additional information through labels with outstanding company products. We generate 360 photographs of the product to display it in a "carousel" format. Finally, we developed the animation of the 3D model to make an "x-ploid" of the flagship product.

02. Propamsa - RA Hologram

The client requested to be able to show a presentation of the CEO in a virtual and integrated way in the real world where he can present the services of his company. We recorded the CEO on the set, with a chroma background. We removed the green background in post production. Finally, we developed a custom application that allows you to view it on a flat surface or in real scale.

03. 3D Virtual Events - Product Hologram

A software system in the cloud that allows the integration of 3D holographic models within platforms such as zoom, meet or twitch. Speakers are captured via their own webcam and "teleported" to a virtual stage. Presenters can talk to each other in real time and share documents of any format. The broadcast of the event can be followed through platforms such as: zoom, teams or twitch. This Software solution will allow any company to have a virtual studio at home but with quality and professional graphics to carry out all kinds of corporate presentations.

Product Hologram by Photogrammetry or 3D Scanning

To create a product hologram using 3D photogrammetry, the following steps will need to be followed:

    • Take photos of the product from different angles: To create a high-quality 3D model, you will need to capture high-resolution images of the product from different angles. It is important to ensure that the images are well lit and in focus.
    • Load the images into a photogrammetry software: There are several photogrammetry programs, such as Agisoft Metashape, RealityCapture, Meshroom, among others. Choose the one that best suits your needs. Load the images into the software and follow the instructions to create a 3D model from them.
    • Clean up the 3D model: After the model is created, it will likely have some errors or imperfections. Use the cleanup tools in your photogrammetry software to correct any problems.
    • Export the 3D model: Once the model is complete, export the file in a format compatible with your holographic or video editing software.
    • Create the Hologram: Use hologram software to create the holographic effect of the 3D model. You can use programs like Unity or Unreal Engine, among others. Test the hologram: After creating the hologram, test it on different devices to make sure it works correctly. Adjust any problems you may find.

With these steps, you will be able to create a product hologram using 3D photogrammetry. Remember that the quality of the 3D model will depend on the quality of the images you have taken, so it is important to pay attention to details when capturing them.

The future of holography

Holography has advanced by leaps and bounds in recent years, allowing the creation of 3D images that appear to jump off the screen. The future of holography looks exciting and promising, with applications in fields such as medicine, education, entertainment, and more.
