Development of a VR Application through a Virtual Tour consisting of the 3D Reconstruction of the “Jameos del Agua”, a geological formation of volcanic origin about 3,000 million years old and 6 km long.
The Project is included within a project to enhance the cultural heritage of the island of Lanzarote. By putting on the virtual reality glasses, the user is immersed in an educational and immersive experience focused on explaining the path of the lava through the volcanic tube.
Pixeldreams designed this virtual experience in which the user enters an underground labyrinth using a space capsule. Our company aimed to capture the essence and grandeur of the place, using cutting-edge technology such as a 3D scanned model of the cave. For the user, it is a 3D virtual tour into the unknown since the tunnel that gives shape to the Jameos del Agua extends majestically for 6 kilometers and with a significant part under the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. This last section, known as the Tunnel of Atlantis, adds an aura of mystery and wonder to this unique experience that can be viewed in 360º.
During the virtual tour, a voiceover also explains that the jameo arose when the roof of a volcanic tube collapsed, revealing a spectacle of geological wonders. The Jameos del Agua are the result of this amazing phenomenon, located specifically in the Corona volcanic tube, in Lanzarote.
During the 3D recreation, the degree of depth and temperature of the vehicle's exterior is indicated, informing the viewer of the climatic and atmospheric conditions in which it is located. In some of the sections of the virtual tour, users find submerged areas where they can see small animals, insects and local fauna in the area. The user can also observe the state of the rocks that surround them, appreciating a significant accumulation of geological materials. Finally, the lava is observed in full action before exiting the 3D tour outside. This virtual reality app is available for Oculus Quest 2.
The space vehicle travels through the interior of the cracks, simulating the path that the lava follows organically until it emerges outside. Our objective was to give value to the cultural heritage of the island through this virtual recreation. To develop this type of 3D animations focused on enhancing cultural heritage, we work in collaboration with clients following the following phases:
