Medtronic is a global leader in medical technology, developing innovative devices and therapies to treat chronic and complex diseases.
With a presence in more than 150 countries, Medtronic’s mission is to relieve pain, restore health, and extend life by delivering advanced solutions in cardiology, neurology, surgery, and critical care.
Medtronic faced the challenge of helping its employees gain a deeper, more empathetic understanding of the daily struggles faced by people living with diabetes. Making the right decisions in response to alerts or glucose readings is far from trivial — it requires real empathy.
Our solution was the development of a fully navigable 3D home environment, designed as a gamified, immersive virtual reality training tool. This interactive experience allows employees to step into the real-life challenges of a person living with diabetes. Today, this approach enables Medtronic to train employees remotely, without the need for travel.
This is not just a digital simulation — it’s an interactive environment where every decision generates a consequence, realistically recreating a person’s daily life with diabetes. Users can freely move around the virtual home and encounter real-life scenarios, such as finding foods in the kitchen with different glycemic indexes that require immediate decisions — responding to a low-glucose alert in the middle of the night, preparing a meal by calculating carbohydrates, or adjusting an insulin dose before exercising.
These actions are simulated with a high degree of realism and integrate Medtronic’s medical devices, including the MiniMed 780G, MiniMed Mobile, InPen, and Accu-Chek Guide Link Meter.
If you want to maximize the impact of your training, strengthen team empathy, and standardize learning globally, virtual reality development is the tool that can transform your strategy.
